Electrician drunk on the job after driving to work

AN ELECTRICIAN working on a new primary school in Fort William was drunk on the job, the town’s sheriff court heard this week.

Gary Milligan had so much alcohol the night before, he was still almost four times over the drink drive limit when he was tested at midmorning on June 27, sheriff Richard Davidson heard on Tuesday (September 15).

The 33-year- old, of Stobo in East Kilbride, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, without insurance and with only a provisional driver’s licence, as well as taking the car without the owner’s permission.

Milligan had 82 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the limit of 22 microgrammes in the same amount of breath, when he was traced by police at Ross Place in Fort William.

He admitted all charges at a previous hearing and sentencing had been deferred for background reports.

Sheriff Davidson fined Milligan £ 800 and banned him from driving for 18 months.

He said: ‘It’s disturbing that you were still so far over the limit by mid-morning from drinking the night before.

‘You know better than me the risks of the type of work you do and the danger of not being in full possession of your wits and I don’t think the council would be pleased about you working on a school in the condition you were in,’ the sheriff added.
