Power project boosts coffers

-

MORE than £10,000 has been invested in projects and charities across Ardnamurchan, thanks to a hydro electric scheme on the peninsula.

Since the project was set up by Carnoch Hydro Community Fund in 2009, the profits have supported projects including Ardnamurchan high school students’ Duke of Edinburgh Award courses, Strontian primary school swimming lessons and helping the Burach Gaelic Choir attend the Royal National Mòd. The hydro site, at the head of Loch Sunart, is now worth more than £1,500 per year to the Ardnamurchan community.

Alistair Maclennan of RWE Innogy UK, the company supporting the scheme, said: ‘Reaching the £10,000 landmark is a significant milestone for the Carnoch Hydro Community Fund.

‘ We are delighted to be supporting those communities hosting our projects.’
