Tonnes of rubbish cleared off Glencoe

MORE than 20 tonnes of rubbish and metal has been cleared from the hills of Glencoe.

Thirty-six bags of old steel from tows, lift cables, electrical wire and rotten timber were airlifted from Meall a Bhuiridh as part of a massive clean up by Glencoe Mountain Resort, ski clubs and volunteers.

The junk had built up as a result of storm damage during the 60 years of the mountain resort’s operation but couldn’t be removed without a helicopter.

Andy Meldrum, managing director of the resort, said: ‘It’s brilliant that we have been able to make a start on ensuring that the simply stunning Glencoe landscape is a little cleaner today than it was before. There is still lots of work to do, but rest assured that this is only the start and we will be doing our utmost over the coming years to continue this process. A massive thanks to everyone who contributed.’
