Is­lay marathon on Sun­day

THE IS­LAY marathon takes place this Sun­day and will fea­ture the Ethiopian win­ner of the 2010 Hous­ton marathon amongst its en­trants.

Teshome Ge­lana, who set a course record of 2hours 7min­utes in the Amer­i­can event five years ago, is one of four run­ners from the African coun­try en­ter­ing this year’s Is­lay event.

The marathon will start at the Port­na­haven vil­lage hall at 7.30am and fin­ish at the Ram­say hall, Port Ellen.

There will be a free bus leav­ing Port Ellen at about 6am to pick up run­ners along the way to take them to the start.

The en­try fee for in­di­vid­ual run­ners is £ 30, with re­lay teams of be­tween two and four peo­ple al­lowed to take part at £40 per team.

All run­ners will need to register on Satur­day in Is­lay high school from 3.30pm on­wards.

The day will be rounded off with a ceilidh in the high school on the Sun­day evening for all run­ners, vol­un­teers and sup­port­ers.
