Paying guests can shoot stags on Rum
COMMERCIAL stag shooting will be available on Rum for the next two seasons.
Rights have been passed from Gallanach lodge on the neighbouring island of Muck meaning as well as culls by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), owners of the lodge can taking paying guests to Rum to experience deer stalking.
This will provide seasonal employment on the island for the next two years, as well as supporting local businesses.
Allan Henderson, Highland councillor and chairman of the Isle of Rum community trust, said: ‘It is great to see an opportunity for local residents and businesses to benefit directly from a wellestablished land management practice.
‘This initiative complements many of the projects the community is already undertaking on Rum, such as the new bunkhouse.’
A spokesman for SNH confirmed ethical shooting practices and safety procedures will be carried out.
