Pay­ing guests can shoot stags on Rum

COM­MER­CIAL stag shoot­ing will be avail­able on Rum for the next two sea­sons.

Rights have been passed from Gal­lanach lodge on the neigh­bour­ing is­land of Muck mean­ing as well as culls by Scot­tish Nat­u­ral Her­itage (SNH), own­ers of the lodge can tak­ing pay­ing guests to Rum to ex­pe­ri­ence deer stalk­ing.

This will pro­vide sea­sonal em­ploy­ment on the is­land for the next two years, as well as sup­port­ing lo­cal busi­nesses.

Allan Hen­der­son, High­land coun­cil­lor and chair­man of the Isle of Rum com­mu­nity trust, said: ‘It is great to see an op­por­tu­nity for lo­cal res­i­dents and busi­nesses to ben­e­fit di­rectly from a wellestab­lished land man­age­ment prac­tice.

‘This ini­tia­tive com­ple­ments many of the projects the com­mu­nity is al­ready un­der­tak­ing on Rum, such as the new bunkhouse.’

A spokesman for SNH con­firmed eth­i­cal shoot­ing prac­tices and safety pro­ce­dures will be car­ried out.
