Vikings defend home turf in tournament
THE VIKINGS were invaded on Sunday at the Taynuilt mini-rugby tournament, but it didn’t faze them.
Etive Vikings, from Taynuilt, defended their home turf by winning both the primary 4/5 and primary 6/ 7 age groups at the tournament.
Teams from Mull, Oban, Lochaber and Mid Argyll took part in the eight-a-side games.
Allan Wright, Argyll and Bute’s rugby development officer, said: ‘This was the second tournament in the space of a week, as we had a tournament on Mull last weekend. It was a great day with some really promising performances by young players.
‘ What I found really encouraging was, in the space of a week, we had a huge uptake in numbers - almost double what we had the week before on Mull.
‘Well done to all the teams, and obviously to Etive Vikings from Taynuilt, for winning both age-groups.’
The next mini-rugby event will be on October 17 when Lochaber are hosts, with teams from different parts of the Highlands making the journey to Banavie Park for the tournament.
