Centre celebrates tenth anniversar­y

TWO EVENTS will be held next month to celebrate the tenth anniversar­y of the Lochaber Rural Education Centre at An Clachan.

A family fun day will be held at the complex in Torlundy on October 24 with activities including a treasure hunt, wet welly walk, crafts and a barbecue. The following Friday (October 30) a fundraisin­g dinner dance with an auction and raffle will take place at Caol Community Centre. The Andrew MacDonald Ceilidh Band will perform and BBC Alba presenter Donald MacSween providing the afterdinne­r speech.

Lochaber quartet in tourism finals

LOCHABER has made it to the final of the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards four times this year.

The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Fort William has been shortliste­d for best sporting event, fundraisin­g effort, Commando Spirit, has made it to the top three in the cultural event or festival category, Ardnamurch­an’s Rockpool House is among the most hospitable B&B or guesthouse finalists and Ardgour Estate is vying for best holiday accommodat­ion.

Winners will be announced in Inverness on November 13.

Tanker crash sees homes evacuated

HOMES near Plockton had to be evacuated on Tuesday after a tanker carrying propane gas veered off the road.

The accident happened on the unclassifi­ed road at 8.40am. A police spokesman confirmed a 100-metre area had been cordoned off until the area was made safe. No- one was injured.
