Buy a brick to help build hall

-

ISLANDERS are being asked to Buy-a-Brick to help get a brand new scout and guide hall built in Tobermory.

The old scout hall has fallen into disrepair, but the clubs for youngsters are booming and the community has already raised £12,500.

Lynne Macleod, one of those involved with the project, said: ‘Planning permission has now been granted for a scout and guide hall in Tobermory, which is is being designed by local man, Bari Reid.’

Organisers say they are ‘ very excited’ and have relaunched the Buy-a-Brick scheme which has already raised over £ 580.

Lynne added: ‘The bricks cost £10 and to buy one go to www.justgiving.com/ Tobermor y-Scout- HallIsle- of-Mull or watch out for leaflets being delivered to homes. At present we have raised £12,500 from our fundraising efforts and we were delighted to receive £10,000 from the Kenny MacIntyre Fund.

‘Our hall is a vital part to our local community and we now have a very active guiding and scouting movement in the area and it is also used weekly by our local keep fit guru, Carol Blakely, who has got us all motivated with her variety of classes.

‘The hall is often used for birthday parties, bingo evenings and community meetings. We still have a long way to reach our target and we will continue with our fundraising and grant applications. If you help in any way please contact jackie@mullmedia.com.’
