‘This is a high point of the year for us. It’s an amazing effort. You can’t be anything but proud’

A LEADING broadcaster has told Oban students to use their heads when it comes to embarking upon a career, writes David McPhee.

Lesley Riddoch was speaking at the Argyll College graduation ceremony last Friday, held in the Argyllshire Gathering in Oban.

More than 70 students from all over the country graduated from the college, which is affiliated to the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI).

Oban’s very own Emily Hobson was one of three students crowned ‘student of the year’.

Writer and TV pundit, Lesley, who attended classes in Nordic studies part-time at UHI and is now studying for a doctorate, said: ‘In the future, the jobs that will not be replaced by robots are those that require judgement calls. Use your judgement and find something that interests you.

‘Those graduating have done just that. They made a goal and they got there.

‘They’ve shown they can work together as a team and these are the qualities employers value.’

Fraser Durie, of Argyll College, said: ‘This is a high point of the year for us. It’s an amazing effort.

‘You can’t be anything but proud This ceremony gets bigger every year with more students and more subjects. We’re constantly looking for new and exciting courses to add to the curriculum.’

More than 1,500 students studied with Argyll College UHI across 14 centres in 2014/15.
