Lorne lose out to the Accies

-

Glasgow Accies Oban Lorne

Oban hit back shortly before half-time with a Carmichael penalty, the result of a fantastic break from within the Accies half by Oban captain Craig Wright.

A couple of half-time changes were made. Injured Richard MacKay left the field replaced by Dom Ma who slotted in at scrum half and Graham MacEachan moving to full back. Oban also made a change in the forwards with Mathias El Sachez coming off the bench to play in the back row.

Oban made a bright start to the second half and reduced the deficit to 14- 6 with another Carmichael penalty.

Accies however were impressing with some good passages of play in the backline stretching a tiring Oban defence. The hosts scored their third try of the afternoon 10 minutes into the half to extend their lead to 21- 6.

Oban hit back with a try from Airidas Savickas who broke free in the 22 to give Oban some hope of a late come-back. Accies, however, had other ideas as they wrapped up the bonus point with their fourth try of the day to put the result beyond doubt.

The men in green rallied late on with some ambitious attacks but could not cross the home tryline.

Despite the result, Oban knew they had come up against a side who will be likely league winners by the end of the season.

Positives for Oban was the performance of 17 year old Rufus Stones who made his first start on the wing along with fellow winger, Plato Moisiadis, who played well on his return from injury.

Oban Lorne are at home to Kilmarnock this Saturday with a kick off at 1pm due to world cup fixtures.

Oban will be hoping to get back to winning ways against a side who have lost their opening two league fixtures.

The clubhouse will be open for all Saturday’s Rugby World Cup games including Scotland’s vital clash with South Africa. All welcome

ARGYLL and Bute’s first league game of the season came to a disappointing end on Saturday as they faced neighbours, Isle of Mull in West Division 4.

Having some influential players back in the squad gave a huge boost to an Argyll team who haven’t played since their cup exit to Birkmyre two weeks ago. Argyll and Bute always knew they had a hard game on there hands against a strong Mull side.

Argyll were in the game for 60 minutes with the score standing at 10-3. A late onslaught from the Mull attack took the final score to 22-3

Next up for Argyll and Bute is a home game this Saturday against Hyndland. Kick off 1pm.
