Inverlochy primary win triathlon

-

INVERLOCHY primary school pupils were crowned winners of a Lochaber-wide triathlon.

Each of the 20 schools sent a team of three, a swimmer, cyclist and runner, to Lochaber leisure centre last Wednesday.

The race kicked off in the pool with a 200-metre swim and three girls smashed the previous event record of three minutes and 24 seconds. Poppy Valentine of Banavie was fastest, covering the distance in three minutes.

Ronnie Fulford was the hero of Spean Bridge when he took first place in the four-kilometre cycle ride, finishing in nine minutes and 33 seconds.

After ‘passing the baton’ to the third and final leg, the runners set off up Cow Hill and Innes Orr of Inverlochy was first home, bringing his school to pole position for the overall event.

Active Schools co- ordinator, Bridget Thomas, said: ‘A huge shout of congratulations has to go to all of the children who took part in what is a great introduction to multisport events. Massive thanks also go out to No Fuss Events for donating prizes and medals, the Lochaber high school pupils who marshalled the event and, of course, to the organisers.’
