New school plan for Kerrera pupils

-

PUPILS from Kerrera are likely to go to Park Primary School as the catchment areas for the island look set to be changed.

Currently children from Kerrera, which is less than a mile from Oban Bay, are in the zone designated to go to Rockfield Primary School at Oban Joint Campus on Soroba Road.

The four primary-aged pupils on the island currently attend Park, on Kerrera Terrace, as it is closer to the North Pier, where they get off the ferry. This is the result of a placement request by parents on the island.

The Oban Lorn and the Isles area committee of Argyll and Bute Council began the process last week, following a request by Kerrera parents and the parent council at Park primary.

Three’s a charm for winner Jessie

SOUTH Uist woman Jessie Steele was on the ball during the Royal National Mòd, thanks to the Oban Times.

As well as the picture special in the newspaper during the two weeks of the Gaelic festival, giving her all the news about the Mòd, Jessie struck it lucky with the Mòd spot-the-ball competition, winning £100.

She said: ‘It’s great news. I’m delighted. I’ll put it towards my heating this winter. I play spot the shinty ball every week and this is the third time I have won – I’ve won £25 twice before.

‘I didn’t visit the Mòd, but I was kept up-to- date with the excellent coverage in the

Oban Times.’

While the Mòd competition is now finished, the jackpot for the regular spot the shinty ball jackpot is sitting at £1,300.
