A WELL-KNOWN west coast ceilidh band is having to start over again after its van was stolen with most of the band’s equipment still inside.

Trail West, originally from Tiree, made the shock discovery on Thursday morning after safely parking the van on Wednesday night in Glasgow, where the majority of the band now live.

The band’s drummer Andrew Findlater discovered the van had vanished, along with thousands of pounds worth of instruments.

Andrew said: ‘I was absolutely distraught. It’s a horrible feeling.

‘You start to question what you did the night before and if this was actually where you parked. ’

After realising the van had indeed been stolen and phoning the police, the band posted a message on social media detailing the theft.

Within a day the post had been shared more than 3,500 times and was seen by more than 150,000 people.

Many musicians stepped into the breach and offered to let the band borrow their gear for upcoming gigs.

Andrew added: ‘ The support from the public has been fantastic.

‘An abundance of people offered us their equipment. But a lot of ours had sentimental value.

‘Over the years the band have grown and we were able to buy better equipment. Now we’re going to have to build it back up again.’
