Arisaig and district community council

-

ARISAIG community council met recently and among the matters discussed were:

Community emergency plan – winter resilience programme 2015 – aid to communities: Maureen McColl, community council secretary, to check with ward manager Dot Ferguson about the grit bins that are already in and about the village. Progress has been made on the use of the Astley Hall and information has been sent to the ward manager.

A830 speed restrictions: the suggestions from Arisaig community coun- cil, Mallaig community council and Councillor Henderson were listened to positively; that the speed limit should be reduced through Lochailort and remain unchanged between Lochailort and Glenfinnan. Addendum: it has been agreed not to reduce the speed limit between Lochailort and Glenfinnan.

Recycling bins: these were overflowing again during the summer and there has been no further progress on extra bins. If the clear and green bins are full, any colour can go into the brown glass bin.

Village 20mph speed limit: now in place. Repositioning of the 20 signs at the west entrance of the village being discussed. It was asked if there could be a notice that drivers are entering a 20mph zone. This will be followed up.

Community council election: posters and nomination papers have been sent out.

Service points: an access point is to be put in Mallaig Library.

Community council new email address: arisaigcc@ hotmail.com.

The ‘ No camper van’ notices by the water front are still there, even though the party responsible for putting them up was made aware of complaints received by the community council.

Email from Ann Martin regards the path from the bypass to the school, which is overgrown. Gerry Macdonald will sort this out. Maureen McColl to check about the 30mph sign at the east end of the bypass and why it isn’t working.

Houses at Canon Gillies Place – what is happening with the three unfinished houses? Work appears to have halted again. To be followed up.
