Seinn Air a’ Phìob/ Song on the Pipes

-

I WROTE about this concert a couple of weeks ago and since then my excitement for it has been building.

It starts at 7.30pm this Thursday October 29, in St Andrew’s in the Square.

It is described by The Big Music Society as ‘an evocative exploration of the connections between Gaelic song and ancient pipe music’.

With Kenna Campbell, Allan MacDonald and Rona Lightfoot all on stage together, and a phenomenal band line up, it looks set to be a fantastic evening.

Glasgow Lewis/Harris Annual Gathering

THE 128TH Lewis/ Harris Annual Gathering concert and dance will take place on Friday November 6 in Glasgow University Union.

I will never forget the first Lewis/ Harris dance I attended.

My friend and I had just moved down to Glasgow and this was the first of any of the association dances that either of us had been to.

Clocking we were unfamiliar with the set up, someone decided to wind us up and tell us that, if we wanted to go to the dance, we would have to pretend we were from Lewis or Harris because only Lewis and Harris people were allowed in.

This, of course, is not the case at all, but for the first half hour or so of the dance, my mate went round speaking in a Lewis accent in case we were thrown out!

This year, Ainsley Hamill, Linda MacLeod, Iain MacKay and Alasdair Whyte will all take the stage for the 7.30pm concert which will be chaired by Calum J Mackay MA.

The dance starts around 10.30pm and will be played by Heron Valley,
