Magnificent seven for Saints Under 16s against Milngavie

Oban Saints Milngavie DFDL - Under 16s WITH most of the sport in Oban being cancelled as a result of bad weather, the rain stayed off just long enough for Oban Saints Under 16s to put seven goals past Milngavie.

The youngsters defeated their East Dumbartonshire opposition 7-2 on the community pitch at Oban High School in a league match last Saturday.

Saints opened the scoring through Bepe Lopez, but their lead didn’t last long because of an error of judgement from Oban goalkeeper Cammy MacMillan, gifting a chance for the Milngavie striker which he could not miss making the score 1-1.

Saints came back into the game and started to dominate possession.

Lewis Buchanan capitalised on a loose ball in the opposition’s box and, with a first time strike, slotted the ball into the bottom corner to regain the lead.

Ruaridh Horne then scored in spectacular fashion, acrobatically plucking the ball out of the air, with an overhead kick securing a two-goal cushion for the Oban side.

Saints made it four just before half time. After defending a corner, they broke on the counter attack. Lewis Buchanan made a clever run that was perfectly picked out by Craig Easton and, with only the keeper to beat, Lewis rolled the ball into the back of the net to make the half time score 4-1.

It was the visitors who scored the first goal of the second half to make it 4 -2, but their joy didn’t last long. After they cleared from a corner, the ball fell kindly for Lewis Buchanan who completed his hat-trick with a 20-yard first time volley that whistled passed the helpless goalkeeper.

Lewis McPhee made it six for Saints after he successfully got on the end of a Lewis Buchanan cross.

Then Kenny MacDonald got the last of the goals when he ran past two defenders and thumped the ball into the back of the net, leaving the keeper with no chance.

Milngavie were reduced to 10 men in the closing minutes when one of their players was shown the red card for foul and abusive language towards the referee.

The game finished 7-2 in favour of Saints.
