Com­mu­nity project sparks life into dis­used Stron­tian dam

A COM­MU­NITY hy­dro scheme on the Ard­na­mur­chan penin­sula is now gen­er­at­ing elec­tric­ity af­ter five months of con­struc­tion.

The £ 850,000 project at a pre­vi­ously dis­used dam in Stron­tian was funded through grants and com­mu­nity shares and will gen­er­ate fu­ture in­come for the area.

Richard Lay­bourne, chair­man of Su­nart Com­mu­nity Re­new­ables, the group be­hind the project, said: ‘This is an ex­cit­ing day for the com­mu­nity.

‘The hy­dro will gen­er­ate in­come to spend on projects in our lo­cal com­mu­nity for years to come. We want to thank all our in­vestors who bought com­mu­nity shares and the many sup­port­ers who have made the vi­sion of five years ago into a re­al­ity.’
