Community project sparks life into disused Strontian dam

-

A COMMUNITY hydro scheme on the Ardnamurchan peninsula is now generating electricity after five months of construction.

The £ 850,000 project at a previously disused dam in Strontian was funded through grants and community shares and will generate future income for the area.

Richard Laybourne, chairman of Sunart Community Renewables, the group behind the project, said: ‘This is an exciting day for the community.

‘The hydro will generate income to spend on projects in our local community for years to come. We want to thank all our investors who bought community shares and the many supporters who have made the vision of five years ago into a reality.’
