Ca­manachd As­so­ci­a­tion ap­point new north shinty de­vel­op­ment of­fi­cer

THE Ca­manachd As­so­ci­a­tion is de­lighted to con­firm the ap­point­ment of Katie Drain as Re­gional Shinty De­vel­op­ment Of­fi­cer for the North.

Katie will take up the In­ver­ness­based post on Mon­day Novem­ber 23 and re­places the pre­vi­ous RDO, Rus­sell Jones.

Katie is al­ready well known within shinty cir­cles as a player for both Glas­gow Mid Ar­gyll and the Scot­land Women’s teams, and also as a coach and ad­min­is­tra­tor.

Since 2008 Katie has worked for the Scot­tish Sports Fu­tures (SSF) char­ity in Glas­gow, de­liv­er­ing Ed­u­ca­tion Through Sport pro­grammes across Scot­land.

In 2013 she be­came Pro­gramme Man­ager of SSF’s highly suc­cess­ful “Jump2it” ini­tia­tive, a pri­mary school Health and Cit­i­zen­ship pro­gramme de­liv­ered across Scot­land to ‘at risk’ youths, us­ing pro ath­letes to de­liver in­ter­ac­tive work­shops.

Katie has also pre­vi­ously worked as a Sports Coach for East Dunb art on shire Coun­cil and is qual­i­fied to coach a range of sports, in­clud­ing: shinty, bas­ket­ball, foot­ball and hockey. She has an Hon­ours De­gree in Sports Man­age­ment from Glas­gow Cale­do­nian Univer­sity.

Torquil Macleod, Ca­manachd As­so­ci­a­tion Chief Op­er­at­ing Of­fi­cer, said; ‘I am de­lighted that Katie will be join­ing the CAs De­vel­op­ment Team. She brings a huge amount of en­thu­si­asm, en­ergy and ex­pe­ri­ence and I am sure she will play an im­por­tant role in the on­go­ing pro­mo­tion and de­vel­op­ment of shinty in the North.’
