Work together to avoid budget cuts
Sir, Argyll and Bute, like all Scottish councils, is faced with savage budget cuts from the SNP government.
Freezing the Council Tax is obviously popular, but the downside is these budget cuts.
Our SNP MP and MSPs are trying to pin all the blame on Lib Dem, Tory and Independent councillors. They seem to forget the SNP councillors also recognise that, without more money from the SNP government, cuts will have to be made.
Don’t forget that the SNP actually won the last council election and formed an administration. They made cuts in their first budget, but when the public protests started they threw in the towel and left it to the other parties to pick up the pieces.
Instead of showering personal abuse on councillors who took up the challenge that SNP councillors ran away from, our SNP MP and MSPs should be working with the council to make the case to the SNP government for more money for Argyll and Bute. That’s the only way these cuts can be avoided.
