The council’s proposal for budget cuts have now gone out to public consultation, with the local authority planning to make savings of £18 million over the next two years, with further savings in future years to make up an estimated £26 million shortfall.

It is an unenviable task that Argyll and Bute Council is faced with, thanks to drastically reduced government funding and the fact that were they to increase council tax, they would lose out on what little government funding is available.

There are no winners in this situation, but it is important that everyone engage in this crucial debate about services and how they will affect people – our elderly, our children, and the vulnerable members of our communities. So speak up and make your voice heard.
