Breathing new life into Mid Argyll Young Farmers Club

-

THERE will be something fresh and different at next Monday’s AGM of NFU Scotland’s Mid Argyll branch.

Development manager for the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs, Jenny Baillie, will be there to promote the cause of Young Farmers in Mid Argyll.

Jenny said: ‘I’ll be attending to speak to the NFU committee about the Young Farmers movement. The idea came about initially from their last NFU branch meeting where the members present decided that they would like to do all they can to encourage young people in the area to become more active with farming and to try to get the Young Farmers Club in Mid Argyll up and running again.’

NFUS branch chairman, John Semple, said: ‘We would like to invite along any local young people who may be interested in joining the Young Farmers to hear a bit more about the organisation. We are also going to ask some past Young Farmer members to speak about their experiences of being a member in the past.’

He added: ‘We certainly want to support the formation of a Mid Argyll Young Farmers club, and not least because there’s none of our committee getting any younger; we need youngsters involved in farming. But apart from that, there is a lot to be gained from being in the Young Farmers. There were some great clubs in Mid Argyll, Kintyre and elsewhere in the 1970s and 80s. Now, there is renewed interest in places like North Argyll and Arran, which is great to see.’

Whether involved in farming or not, everyone is invited, and there will be a buffet to enjoy as well.

It all takes place at the Kilmartin Hotel at 7.30pm next Monday, January 11.

And look out for a Mid Argyll ‘ New Members Games and Info Night’ coming up soon.
