Housing charity offers support to private landlords
A NEW service aimed at helping private landlords in Lochaber to provide better support to their tenants is being launched at the end of the month.
The Private Landlord Support Project is being piloted by Shelter Scotland in partnership with Lochaber Housing Association.
The service offers tailored information and practical assistance by working together with private landlords in Lochaber to help them meet their own aspirations and ensure they provide excellent quality, private-rented accommodation.
Bryan Powell, private landlord support officer, with Shelter Scotland said: ‘With a shared passion for safe, secure and affordable homes for the community, our new service is designed to provide information and practical assistance tailored to a landlord’s individual aspirations.
‘The free service brings the substantial expertise and knowledge of Shelter Scotland with it to help private landlords be as professional as possible. We’ll advise on getting registered, understanding and meeting legal requirements, improving property and energy efficiency and applying for grants and financial assistance.
‘There are many benefits to landlords spending time, money and energy on improvement. Not only does it help maintain or increase their property’s value, it also means the property is easier to let and tenants are happier and more likely to stay longer.
‘Providing a long-term home looks after the bricks and mortar investment and ensures a capital and social return in the future.’
