Morgan makes a winning debut
LAST Friday night at a boxing show in Kirkintilloch hosted by North Glasgow Boxing Club, Claymores Boxing Club’s youngest carded boxer made his winning debut.
Morgan Lawrence, 11, of North Ballachulish, was in action against host club North Glasgow’s boxer Aryan Rasul, also making his debut.
Both young men gave a very polished performance in the ring with the Claymores boxer taking the first round.
Lawrence took the middle of the ring and used his educated jab to keep his opponent on the outside and on the back foot.
Whenever the opportunity presented itself Lawrence was ready to take advantage and whip in a right hook or a right cross to his opponent’s head or body. The second round saw the home boxer rally for the first time, trying to push Lawrence back, but to no avail as Lawrence used his head, didn’t panic and boxed his way out of trouble.
The third round was the decider with both lads knowing they had to take it to secure the win. Lawrence came out fast and because of his excellent fitness managed to keep the pace up.
When the 10-second warning banged he threw a beautiful right hook that sent his opponent reeling into the ropes.
At the bell Lawrence won the bout on a split decision; both lads put in a fantastic perormance.
Head coach Martin Glenesk said: ‘I can’t say enough about this young man. He is a pleasure to train. He is always ready to listen and try out new things; a total credit to his parents.’
