Sale of cattle on Thursday, May 19

CALEDONIAN Marts, Stirling, held a sale of 168 cattle last Thursday.

Prime bullocks averaged – 199p. Prime heifers averaged – 204p. OTM cattle – 147p. Beef cows averaged – 121p. Dairy cows averaged – 108p. Young bulls averaged – 171p. Cast bulls averaged – 107p.

Caledonian Marts Ltd sold 168 cattle, comprising of 86 prime bullocks and heifers, 15 young bulls, three OTM cattle and 64 cast cows and bulls.

Caledonian Marts Ltd held their annual show and sale of Limousin prime cattle on the same day, sponsored by the British Limousin Cattle Society and judged by Scott Watson, Forfar.

With an excellent show of cattle forward, the overall champion went to T H Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown, for a bullock which later sold for 275ppkg or £1435.50, purchased by the judge – Scott Watson on behalf of Scott Bros, Dundee.

The reserve champion went to W Dandie, Learielaw, Broxburn, for a heifer which later sold for 280ppkg or £1612.80, purchased by H A Black & Sons, Unit 10, Whiteside Ind Est, West Lothian.

Bullocks sold to 232ppkg (twice) for limousins from T H Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown, purchased by D Campbell & Son Butchers, 28 Ancaster Square, Callander, and from A S Hay, Mains of Cultmalundie, Tibbermore, and for £1480.10 for a British Blue from P Johnston & Son, Glenrigg, Falkirk, purchased by H A Black & Son, Unit 10, Whiteside Ind Est, West Lothian.

Heifers sold for 240ppkg for a limousin from A S Hay, Mains of Cultmalundie, Tibbermore, purchased by H A Black & Sons, Unit 10, Whiteside Ind Est, West Lothian, and for £1483.20 for the same beast.
