CalMac’s Colin builds port bench

-

FERRY passengers travelling to and from Mallaig can now rest on a new hand-made bench at CalMac’s port office.

Colin Fisher, who has worked with CalMac for more than two years, used unwanted timber to make the bench.

Once built, he painted it in the company’s colours and included the firm’s recognised logo.

Colin, from Mallaig, who is keen on DIY, said: ‘ We had quite a few pallets at the port from various freight deliveries and I just thought this would be a nice thing to do with some of them.

‘It’s a good way of recycling the wood and it’s something which everyone at the port can enjoy.’

Port manager Nancy McLean said: ‘I can’t praise Colin enough for his efforts and everyone agrees it is very impressive.

‘It has become a main feature here in Mallaig and draws a lot of attention.’

The bench has taken pride of place at the port office and is already a hit with passengers travelling to and from the Small Isles and Skye.
