Fun night raises cash for Alex
A SUPPER, auction and raffle will held in Pennyghael Hall, Mull, to raise funds for Bunessan mum Alex Cameron, who is flying to Singapore next month for treatment in a bid to halt her multiple sclerosis ( MS).
Alex, who runs the Creel Seafood Bar at Fionnphort, is trying to raise £ 56,000 to pay for a new two- to three-month course of chemotherapy followed by a hematopoietic stem cell transplant, which reboots the body’s immune system.
Scientists have recently applauded the radical but risky therapy after The Lancet medical journal reported this week that a Canadian trial of the treatment had halted symptoms in most MS sufferers.
The social evening takes place tomorrow ( Friday June 17) at 7pm, and features a cold buffet of Mull produce, followed by a grand raffle and auction of items generously donated from across the island, compered by Ronnie Campbell of Uisken.
The list of items include a holiday in France, two new sets of tables and chairs valued at £ 800 and £1,500, and original framed photographs and paintings of Mull landscapes and wildlife.
Entry to the evening costs £10 at the door, where pipers will also be playing.
Co- ordinator Greg Marsh promises a memorable occasion for all – especially for Alex.
