£17,000 raised to ‘bring Maddy home’

MORE THAN £17,000 has so far been raised to en­sure a young woman is re­turned home fol­low­ing a tragic ac­ci­dent on Skye last week, writes El­lie Forbes.

Twenty- one-year- old Aus­tralian Madi­son Rice died last Mon­day (June 6) af­ter be­ing struck by a car as she and her boyfriend hitch­hiked home af­ter a night out.

land, was set up to raise the money as it was re­vealed she had no travel in­sur­ance.

Miss Rice’s fam­ily has said: ‘We hope to get her home as soon as pos­si­ble.

‘ We have the ag­o­nis­ing wait for Maddy to make her trip home.’

A com­ment from the fam­ily on the fundrais­ing page on Sun­day (June 12) sug­gested that they were hope­ful that Madi­son would be re­turned to Aus­tralia some­time next week: ‘It’s look­ing like Wed­nes­day June 22.’

A quote on the page from The Beauty House Academy where Madi­son trained said: ‘ We are in to­tal dis­be­lief to hear that one of our beau­ti­ful stu­dents is no longer with us.

‘Words can not ex­press our sym­pa­thy for all of Maddy’s friends and fam­ily.

‘Such a beau­ti­ful girl. Al­ways re­mem­bered, never for­got­ten.’

At the time of her death, Madi­son was liv­ing with her boyfriend on Skye while working in Kin­loch Lodge Ho­tel at Sleat.

Madi­son was killed at 1.15am, near the Sli­gachan ho­tel.
