IT IS impossible to overstate the damage that illegal drugs do to our communities. The chaos is not only caused to those unfortunates who find themselves addicted to dangerous substances but is seen in increased crime rates as people break the law to feed their habits. It is against this backdrop that the unceasing struggle to combat the dealers and their pernicious trade must be viewed. And it is gratifying that our local police are this week reporting successes in degrading the ability of these parasites to peddle their drugs.

However, we also commend the many other bodies and individuals involved in this campaign: it is genuinely a multi-agency approach that is now paying dividends.
