Oban High pupils win medals at Scottish Athletics Championships
THE SCOTTISH Schools Athletics Champion- ships took place recently at Grangemouth. Five pupils from Oban High School took part having achieved the high qualifying standard.
Finbar Dunne won gold medals in both the boys’ under-15 shot putt and under-15 discus. He is now ranked number one in Scotland for shot and discus in his age group and fifth in the UK for shot and third for discus.
Emma Thompson won the silver medal in the women’s under 20 high jump, clearing 1.55m.
Paddy Dunne won the silver medal in the under-17 men’s javelin, throwing a personal best of 56.23m. Paddy is now ranked second in Scotland for javelin and fifth in the UK. Due to his recent success, he has been selected for the national team to represent Scotland at the schools’ international in Ashford in Kent in July.
Also taking part were Grace Thompson in the under-15 girls’ discus and Poppy McKillop in the girls’ under-14 high jump and 200m.
All five pupils are coached at Oban High School by coach Duncan MacIntyre from Ardfern.
