Oban High pupils win medals at Scot­tish Ath­let­ics Cham­pi­onships

THE SCOT­TISH Schools Ath­let­ics Cham­pion- ships took place re­cently at Grange­mouth. Five pupils from Oban High School took part hav­ing achieved the high qual­i­fy­ing stan­dard.

Fin­bar Dunne won gold medals in both the boys’ un­der-15 shot putt and un­der-15 dis­cus. He is now ranked num­ber one in Scot­land for shot and dis­cus in his age group and fifth in the UK for shot and third for dis­cus.

Emma Thomp­son won the sil­ver medal in the women’s un­der 20 high jump, clear­ing 1.55m.

Paddy Dunne won the sil­ver medal in the un­der-17 men’s javelin, throw­ing a per­sonal best of 56.23m. Paddy is now ranked sec­ond in Scot­land for javelin and fifth in the UK. Due to his re­cent suc­cess, he has been se­lected for the na­tional team to rep­re­sent Scot­land at the schools’ in­ter­na­tional in Ash­ford in Kent in July.

Also tak­ing part were Grace Thomp­son in the un­der-15 girls’ dis­cus and Poppy McKil­lop in the girls’ un­der-14 high jump and 200m.

All five pupils are coached at Oban High School by coach Dun­can MacIntyre from Ard­fern.
