In­ver­lochy do the dou­ble at Fraser Macphee Sevens

THE an­nual Fraser Macphee shinty tour­na­ment which started in 2004 was held at An Aird shinty field on Sun­day June 13.

The tour­na­ment, which is held each year in mem­ory of Fraser, who was a talented shinty player, was held in Fort Wil­liam Shinty Club in An Aird.

Seven­teen pri­mary school teams played seven-a-side shinty, un­der two cat­e­gories – P5 and un­der and P7 and un­der.

The P7 and un­der fi­nal was be­tween Kin­gussie and In­ver­lochy Pri­mary Schools, with In­ver­lochy win­ning 1- 0. The player of the match was Cameron Stevens of In­ver­lochy.

The P5 and un­der fi­nal was be­tween In­ver­lochy and In­ver­ness and again In­ver­lochy won 1- 0. The player of the match was Kee­gan MacLeod Mur­ray from In­ver­ness.

Competition win­ners: speed hitting – Lach­lan Cameron, Dun­ve­gan, 86 km/ hr was the speed of his shot; skills competition, drib­bling and shooting ac­cu­racy – Calum Moni­gal, King ussie with a score of 144 pts.

And £450 was raised which will be do­nated to Katie Drain at the Ca­manachd As­so­ci­a­tion to be put to­wards sup­port­ing dis­abled par­tic­i­pa­tion in shinty.

An or­gan­iser for the event told The Oban Times: ‘It was a fan­tas­tic day at­tended by the largest ever num­ber of teams. Many thanks to ev­ery­one who vol­un­teered – coaches, train­ers and most of all the chil­dren who took part.

‘It has be­come a favourite an­nual event and we hope next year will be just as good.’

She added that the weather had held out and ‘ very well timed’ with the rain only start­ing just as the tro­phy cer­e­mony was end­ing.
