Inverlochy do the double at Fraser Macphee Sevens

THE annual Fraser Macphee shinty tournament which started in 2004 was held at An Aird shinty field on Sunday June 13.

The tournament, which is held each year in memory of Fraser, who was a talented shinty player, was held in Fort William Shinty Club in An Aird.

Seventeen primary school teams played seven-a-side shinty, under two categories – P5 and under and P7 and under.

The P7 and under final was between Kingussie and Inverlochy Primary Schools, with Inverlochy winning 1- 0. The player of the match was Cameron Stevens of Inverlochy.

The P5 and under final was between Inverlochy and Inverness and again Inverlochy won 1- 0. The player of the match was Keegan MacLeod Murray from Inverness.

Competitio­n winners: speed hitting – Lachlan Cameron, Dunvegan, 86 km/ hr was the speed of his shot; skills competitio­n, dribbling and shooting accuracy – Calum Monigal, King ussie with a score of 144 pts.

And £450 was raised which will be donated to Katie Drain at the Camanachd Associatio­n to be put towards supporting disabled participat­ion in shinty.

An organiser for the event told The Oban Times: ‘It was a fantastic day attended by the largest ever number of teams. Many thanks to everyone who volunteere­d – coaches, trainers and most of all the children who took part.

‘It has become a favourite annual event and we hope next year will be just as good.’

She added that the weather had held out and ‘ very well timed’ with the rain only starting just as the trophy ceremony was ending.
