Lochaber primary pupils prepare to take big step up to high school

-

PRIMARY seven pupils have been putting their first foot forward toward the next step of their educational career.

Graduates from Lochaber High School’s associated primaries were visiting the secondary school last week in preparation for starting first year after the summer.

The 180 pupils – the largest year group in recent years – followed a full S1 timetable for the week as well as taking part in a range of transition activities.

A well-attended parents’ evening was held on Thursday June 16 as part of the transition programme organised by Yvonne Clark, prin- cipal guidance teacher. The aim of the transition programme is to allow pupils to find their way around the school, get to know their new classmates, meet their teachers and allay any fears about moving to secondary school. Jim Sutherland, head teacher, said: ‘Feedback on the week has been very positive from pupils and parents, and we’re very much looking forward to welcoming our new first years back to the school in August.’
