Ardentraiv­e bullock leads kilo prices at Oban sale

CALEDONIAN Marts Ltd sold 108 store, breeding and OTM cattle along with 397 store hoggets, feeding ewes and ewe with lambs at foot.

At the sale on Tuesday June 7, 42 bullocks averaged 216p/kg or £537, selling to 248p/kg for a Limousin from A McIntyre, Ardentraiv­e, Colintraiv­e and to £825 for an Aberdeen Angus from B Walker, Carloonan, Inveraray.

31 heifers averaged 203p/kg or £526, selling to 217p/kg (twice) for a Limousin from C McLarty, Homestead, Lochgilphe­ad and Shorthorn from D J MacGillivr­ay, Pennnygown, Isle of Mull, and to £700 for an Aberdeen Angus from J & S Anderson, Kilbride, Balvicar.

Among the OTM cattle, 23 animals averaged 91p/kg or £479, selling to £790 for a Simmental from A MacDonald, 19 East Hynish, Isle of Tiree or to 118p/kg for the same beast.

Breeding cattle averaged £836, selling to £890 for an Aberdeen Angus from B Walker, Carloonan.

In the sheep ring, store hoggets averaged £52, selling to £78 for a pen of Texels from I Campbell & Son, Strongorm, Balvicar. Feeding ewes averaged £54, selling to £80 for a pen of Cheviots from N Boase, Ardlarach, Lochgilphe­ad.

Ewes with lambs at foot sold to £174 for a blackface ewe with twins from T Palmer, Achnacarro­n, Lochgilphe­ad.
