Former councillor passes away

DUNCAN MACINTYRE, a former councillor and justice of the peace, died on Tuesday afternoon after a year-long illness, aged 72.

The influentia­l politician was an elected member, transport spokesman and area chairman for Oban, Lorn and the Isles. He represente­d Argyll and Bute on many issues across the UK.

Mr MacIntyre was a devout Roman Catholic and communican­t in the Cathedral community. He was a member of many charities, clubs and groups, caring greatly about the people and town of Oban and wider Argyll.

Mr MacIntyre and his wife Rosemary ran a bed and breakfast at their home on the banks of Loch Feochan.

It is understood he died surrounded by his wife and two children, as well as other family members.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are yet to be announced.
