Air gun confusion

-

CONTRADICTING campaigns by the Scottish government and Police Scotland have left people confused about the law regarding air guns.

The Air Weapons Licensing (Scotland) Regulations 2016, alongside Police Scotland’s amnesty of air guns, have led to a rise in calls from Countryside Alliance members questioning where they stand.

Scottish Countryside Alliance director Jamie Stewart said that the licensing does not come in until December 31, 2016.

He continued: ‘The Scottish Government should have been much clearer. Anyone who wants to use or own an air gun will be able to apply to Police Scotland for an air weapon certificate or permit from July 1, 2016, which will cover them when the law is introduced in January 2017.’
