Council backs parliament’s Brexit plan

ARGYLL and Bute Council threw its weight behind the Scottish government’s efforts to protect Scotland’s place in the European Union (EU) following the recent vote to leave.

At the full council meeting on June 30, councillor­s backed the motion, moved by Councillor James Robb, welcoming Scotland’s vote to remain in the European Union, recognisin­g the contributi­on of EU citizens living in the country and mandating the Scottish Government to have discussion­s with EU institutio­ns.

In his leader’s report Councillor Dick Walsh said of the vote: ‘The needs of the people in our communitie­s must be our priority and local government must have a strong voice as the implicatio­ns [of Brexit] become clear.’
