For John’s a jolly good fellow...

SCOTTISH Association for Marine Science (SAMS) staff past and present gathered at the Ocean Explorer Centre in Dunstaffnage to pay tribute to honorary research fellow Dr John Gordon, who was recently awarded the OBE for services to science in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Having moved to SAMS in 1969, the deep sea specialist spent his entire research career at the institute. Dr Gordon, from Seil, is pictured third from left next to SAMS director, Professor Nicholas Owens, who congratulated Dr Gordon on his achievement.

Professor Owens said: ‘You were known for your innovative and extremely successful research but at SAMS you also had the reputation of being friendly, always willing to give advice and always good fun.’
