Newspaper set to mark anniversary

AN OUTER Hebrides newspaper is celebrating its 40-year anniversary with a programme of special events. Launched in 1976 in Benbecula,

Am Pàipear has gone on to win several awards.

Editor Iain Stephen Morrison, said: ‘ Am Pàipear was created by the community, which still retains a very strong sense of ownership, and this is a huge part of our success.’

Alasdair Allan MSP opened an exhibition exploring the history of the publication at Museum nan Eilean on July 7.

The community is also invited to a special preview of a BBC Alba documentary about the paper.

Trusadh: Am Pàipear will be shown in Balivanich Hall on Tuesday July 19 and will be broadcast on TV on August 8.
