Gaelic book is translated

A RENOWNED Gaelic book that outlines what it was like growing up on Barra and Vatersay has been translated into English.

Air Mo Chuairt was written by Eala said Chaimbeul and gives an account of growing up as a child on Barra after the First World War, the impact of the Second World War and then returning to work as a schoolteacher on Barra and Vatersay.

Another Barra schoolteacher, Mary Flora Galbraith, translated the Gaelic original, which was first published by Acair in 1982.
