Portree

-

FORMER pupils of Portree high school who resided in Elgin Hostel are being invited back to the building that they once called home.

On Saturday August 13 former residents will gather to see what was the boys’ hostel for those attending the high school.

The hostel has undergone major refurbishment and is now about to reopen as a mixed girls and boys hostel for the school.

Former pupil Murdo Beaton said: ‘Although the building looks the same from the outside, inside it is very different indeed, but former pupils will surely find it sufficient to trigger many nostalgic memories.

‘This will be a unique, and really a final opportunity, for those who knew the original building to visit, to reminisce, to say farewell to what was, and to welcome what is new.’

There will be short interviews conducted with anyone who wants to share anecdotes and memories for a Radio nan Gaidheal programme.

Visitors will have an opportunity to take a tour of the refurbished building and view a display of archive material and photographs.
