Cash donation has future for pipe band's younger players in the bag

-

OBAN Pipe Band has been given £2,000 by Scottish Sea Farms’ Heart of the Community Trust to buy new sheepskin pipe bags and chanters.

The cash gift has also enabled the 96-year- old band to equip eight new young members from Oban High School, and a further two from Benbecula and Ardgour.

Jim Gallagher, managing director of Scottish Sea Farms, said: ‘The pipers give the whole area something to be proud of and we are delighted to be able to help them develop their distinctive sound with new pipes and chanters, and we look forward to hearing both the music and news of further competitive success.’

Arthur Gillies, Oban Pipe Band president, added: ‘ We have had a lot of success in recent years which brings publicity and recognition for the Oban and Lorn area, and we are all really looking forward to this summer.’
