Campers causing chaos

-

A COMMUNITY warden is urgently needed for the island of Mull for residents who are finding it difficult to find parking places because of campervans.

Last week’s community council meeting heard that reduced ferry fares are bringing small campervans to the island in droves.

But instead of booking into official campsites, they are stopping overnight in car parks and lay-bys.

Community council chairman Billy MacClymont said: ‘There are now a number of issues that would merit having a community warden on the island.

‘They’ve got them in Oban and I am sure they are meant to cover this area as well. We were meant to see them at the time of the Mull Music Festival [in April] but I don’t think anyone managed to come over in the end.’

The community council discussed a number of other issues that could be within the remit of the warden, such as parking in passing places, driver education and giving dog fouling fixed penalty notices.

The community council agreed to seek the support of the island’s councillors and to write to Argyll and Bute Council for an allocation of its budget.
