Fort lose first game of the season

Iain Foggo is appointed new team captain

-

THE FORT travelled to Banff at the weekend to take on Deveronvale looking to be successful on the opening day of the season for the first time in a long time, but unfortunately they couldn’t secure the win.

Fort opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, with Scottie Davidson firing home from the penalty spot. But this lead was only to last three minutes, when the referee Alex Shepherd surprised everyone in the ground with a penalty decision to the home side which Gary Harris converted.

A quick-fire double from Paul Sutherland saw the home side go 3-1 up at the interval.

The visitors came out fired up for the second half and were back in the game just two minutes after the restart, when new signing Danny Highet scored from close range.

The Fort then had a stonewall penalty claim waved away before Gary Harris got his second of the afternoon to seal the win for the home team.

The Lochaber side’s next game is against Fraserburgh at Claggan Park on Saturday with a 3pm kick off.

The club have appointed Iain Foggo as their new team captain.

The 23-year- old local lad, has been involved with the first team since he was 15, and has amassed almost 250 Highland League appearances.

Iain said: ‘As a local boy I am delighted and honoured to have been asked to captain my home town team. Hopefully we can all help the club progress and move forward together.’

Manager Ally Ewen said: ‘Since I have been at the club, Iain has been a joy to work with. He has been committed, dedicated and has always trained well, and I just felt that the time was now right.’
