New faces join the crowds flocking to Tiree for popular fèis

-

MORE than 80 adults and children took part in this year’s Fèis Thiriodh at Tiree High School.

Since its inception 26 years ago, the event has been attracting people to the island, with new faces appearing each year.

Tiree’s own Eilidh ‘the ceilidh’ Mac- Fadyen was in charge of accordion this year and lived up to her name providing plenty music and craic throughout the week. Fellow Dùn Mòr band members Mairi Innes, teaching drums, and Micheal Steele on flute and whistle, joined her at the event.

Robert Robertson was this year’s gui- tar tutor, Alastair Currie from Islay led the Gaelic singing, Craig Espie taught fiddle, Tara Rankin led the keyboard classes and Gordon Rowan taught piping and chanter.

Iain MacKinnon led a Gaelic conversation class, Iona Cairns was teaching Highland dancing and John Angus MacKinnon and Ishi MacLean led drama and filmmaking classes.

The workshops were complemented with a variety of evening events, which were open to the public.

Plans are already in place for Fèis Thiriodh 2017 which will be held from July 3 to 7.
