Medals won at the Celtic Games

BROTHERS Paddy and Finbar Dunne represente­d Scotland at the Celtic Games in Swansea at the weekend along with fellow club mate Stephen MacKenzie from Inverness Harriers. The epic 15-hour journey proved to be well worthwhile.

Like the weather in Swansea, the athletes’ performanc­es were scorching. Stephen Mackenzie won gold in the under-16 boy’s long jump with a jump of 1.84m. Paddy Dunne won silver in the men’s under-18 javelin with a throw of 57.33m, a new personal best, and Finbar Dunne won silver in the boy’s under-16 discus with a new personal best throw of 42.22m.

The athletics season is approachin­g a climax with all three athletes due to compete in the Scottish National championsh­ips in Grangemout­h over the next two weekends, with Paddy and Finbar going on to compete at the English National Championsh­ips at the end of the month having achieved the high qualifying standard.
