Island hotel hit by malware

-

POLICE on the isle of Lewis are investigating a complaint from the owners of an island hotel who discovered malicious software hidden on their computer system.

The software is designed to covertly capture data from a computer system which can then be accessed by a third party. This includes remote access through email.

On this occasion the software was identified prior to any data being accessed.

Police are advising internet users that if they notice any unusual activity on their computer, they should contact Police Scotland on 101 to report it.
