Prizes are handed out at Plockton Regatta
THE annual regatta fortnight run by Plockton Small Boat Sailing Club got under way on July 25 despite the dismal weather.
After the disappointing start, when just the centreboard race was held due to the strong winds, the regatta began for the local boats.
The second week of the annual regatta began on August 1, in much improved weather with sunshine for the evening race
This year’s fishing competition had 11 entries and the winner, for the second year in a row, was Ewen Cameron who had 86 fish weighing 36lbs.
Winner of the heaviest single fish was Duncan McAndrew with a 3lb Ling, the first one seen for many years.
The Grand Concert and Dance was held in Plockton hall in the evening. Chairman was Ewen MacKenna and after an excellent programme by local artists, Commodore Neil Macrae announced that Calum Reid was the winner of the Junior Endeavour Trophy and David Hay (Coruisk) won the Starters Cup.
He also thanked all who had helped make the fortnight such a success, especially timekeeper Sarah Bruce and the rescue boat crews.
Clair Jackson, the Commodores partner, presented
the cups and prizes and she received a bouquet of flowers from Chloe and Christopher McLaughlin.
Dancing followed to music by the Suzie Simpson Band.
