Children blossom at show

-

THE church hall in Connel was filled with wonderful displays of flowers, vegetables and baking on September 10 for the St Oran’s Church, Connel and Dunbeg annual show.

Marion Fisher, the organiser, was delighted with the turnout. She was especially pleased to see so many children taking part, with entries from Achaleven and Barcaldine Primary Schools.

Marion remembers as a child picking wild bluebells and displaying them in jamjars for the show. This year the overall winner was Ian Brown for his wonderful flower exhibits. BENDERLOCH is the location for the inaugural Bookends Festival that takes place from September 24.

The Victory Hall will be transformed into a sumptuous reading room for this week-long festival.

The programme includes evening and afternoon events featuring local writers Kenneth Steven, Norman Bissell, Judy Fairbairns and Russell Campbell.

Watch out for ‘ book bins’ that will be located in Barcaldine, Bonawe, North Connel, Connel, Taynuilt, SAMS, Dunbeg, Hope Kitchen and Seil. People are encouraged to use these book bins to take a book or leave a book or just have a peek.
