-

SNP Oban & Lorn Branch is holding an SNP Engagement Day on Saturday 24th September 2016 at the Rockfield Centre, Stevenson Street from 10am until 5:30pm. MP’s, MSP’s, MEP and Councilors from all over the country will arrive in Oban for this regional event.

A highlight of the day will be the SNP Depute Leader hustings. Candidates contesting the position are: Alyn Smith MEP, Angus Robertson MP, Cllr. Chris McEleny and Tommy Sheppard MP, the Hustings will be chaired by Maree Todd MSP. Voting has started for the position of Depute Leader; the successful candidate will be announced at the SNP conference in October. The hustings is for SNP members only.

There is an ideal opportunity for non-members to hear Tommy Sheppard MP when he hosts a public meeting talking about his year in Westminster.

Brexit is the topic for what will be an engaging and informative session in the afternoon at 16:30. With so many ‘unknowns’, it will be interesting to hear what Alyn Smith MEP and Michael Russell MSP consider what might and will be involved in the exit process. Michael Russell MSP has recently been appointed as the Minister for UK Negotiations on Scotland’s Place in Europe. Alyn Smith has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2004; he is a member of the Agriculture Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee. This meeting is open to the public, it is a great opportunity to hear first-hand what Brexit means.

Other topics for discussion during the day are the SNP Manifesto for Council 2017 at 10am and The National Survey; a chat about Independence – if you are still to be convinced then come along at 14:15.

The Rt Hon Angus Robertson MP, leader of the SNP Parliamentary Group at Westminster, will host a discussion about the SNP; the party, the policies and the people – a potted history. Brendan O’Hara MP will chair this public meeting at 3:30pm.
