Lewis gets on his bike for char­ity

A 19-YEAR- OLD from Dun­beg has cy­cled 60 miles around Loch Awe in or­der to raise money to fund his trip to Africa.

Lewis McFar­lane was cho­sen from a pool of ap­pli­cants that spanned the world to vol­un­teer for five months.

Dur­ing his time abroad, Lewis will work with the rugby char­ity Bhubesi Pride Foun­da­tion to help ap­prox­i­mately 3,000 chil­dren and mem­bers of staff de­velop their rugby and life skills.

The for­mer Dun­beg Pri­mary and Oban High School pupil has so far raised £ 675, from events in­clud­ing his ride, a raf­fle and quiz night, and on­line do­na­tions.

Lewis left Kilchre­nan at 7.20am and fin­ished his cy­cle at 3.10pm. His mum, Deirdre, said: ‘ The hills com­ing out of Kilchre­nan and to­wards Dalavich were very daunt­ing and Lewis did strug­gle at the start but, when the sun even­tu­ally came up and the worst was over, he was much more pos­i­tive and he fin­ished with al­most a smile.’

How­ever, she added: ‘ I’m not sure he will want to travel that road any time soon.’

Lewis needs to raise thou­sands of pounds to cover his trip.
