Raasay cheers whisky, fire and song
THE ISLE of Raasay has been celebrating whisky, fire and song.
The community event kicked off last Saturday with an architectural tour of the Isle of Raasay Distillery site by ABIR architect and Raasay resident Olli Blair, followed by a tour of Raasay House to celebrate 2016 Scotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design.
Olli spoke about how other buildings on the island and the landscape of the island itself had informed the distillery design.
Children on the island then took part in an architecture cake competition, making baked items in the shape of some of the island’s buildings.
In the evening, around 50 people marched through the pitch black and bitter cold with flaming torches to the bonfire site outside the boathouse. Then into the night the boathouse bar served Plockton Brewery beer and Raasay House warmed everyone up with a supper of stovies and soup with all proceeds from the bar and food going towards upkeep of the boathouse.
